Bad Breath

Otherwise known as Halitosis bad breath is a result of poor dental habits and may be a sign of other health problems, in particular gum disease. The type of foods we eat or other unhealthy lifestyle habits such as smoking can also effect out breath.

Regular brushing (ideally after eating ), flossing (daily) and professional cleaning (scale and polish) are paramount to maintaining oral health and fresh breath.

Some patients are more prone to bad breath and gum disease than others – so while yearly or twice yearly scale and polish may suit some, others may need more frequent visits to remove persistent tartar build-up and treat gingivitis (bleeding gums) which is the first sign of gum disease.

At Clifden Dental we give Oral Hygiene instruction and advise patients on which products to use to suit their individual needs.
