Fissure Sealants

Fissure sealants are plastics which are resin-bonded to the pits and deep grooves in your tooth’s chewing surface. They are usually placed in permanent molar and premolar teeth as a painless way of protecting children’s teeth from tooth decay.

They act as a barrier to plaque and acids hence helping to protect against decay. In general they last for 3-5 years, the period when the tooth is most immature and therefore more at risk from decay.
