Implants provide tooth replacement without the need to cut down adjacent teeth and they have the added advantage of preserving bone.
This procedure involves two stages:
- First replacing the root portion of a missing tooth with a dental ‘implant’ which is used as an anchor for a new tooth.
- Then 3-6 months later the final restoration or crown is placed.
Here at Clifden Dental, we will refer you to a specialist for the surgical stage of the implant. Then we will place the crown on your implant .
Implants can be used to replace a single tooth or several teeth. They can even be used if there are no teeth present. There is also no age limit to having implants.
Caring for Implants
Although they will not decay, they are however like natural teeth and are prone to gum disease if not looked after. Hence the same oral hygiene tools (brushing and flossing) apply. Just like natural teeth regular check-ups are necessary to examine and assess their peri-implant (periodontal) health.
